Long-time Executive Director for The Point Steps Down, Replacement Sought

After five transformative years leading The Point, Alan Matheson is stepping down as executive director to accept a position managing land and water resources at Rio Tinto Kennecott. The Point of the Mountain State Land Authority (Land Authority) has initiated a nationwide search to select an executive director. More information can be found at thepointutah.org/job-opportunities.

On July 15, the Land Authority appointed Michael Ambre as the interim executive director. Ambre currently serves full time as the division director for the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management (DFCM). Ambre has worked in various positions at DFCM for over 20 years, overseeing virtually every aspect of the division’s work from maintenance to real estate. He has managed some of the most complex projects the State of Utah has ever undertaken, including the new Utah State Correctional Facility and the new north building on Capitol Hill

The Land Authority has also announced Nick Duerksen as its new Land Development Director. Duerksen brings nearly four decades of public sector experience, most recently from the Utah Transit Authority, where he served as a project manager in the transit-oriented development division. His work included overseeing the design, construction, and management of mixed-use developments across the Wasatch Front, preparing complex development plans, and negotiating high-stakes agreements for projects in Ogden, Clearfield, West Jordan, Draper, Midvale, and Sandy.
