Canyons School District Recycling Dumpsters Removed

The following information is from Canyons School District:

Canyons School District has experienced ongoing issues with the recycling bin at Draper Park Middle School. A variety of unacceptable objects have been routinely placed in the bin, including but not limited to, dead animals, pallets, contaminated products, furniture, etc. These contaminants make nearly all loads unrecyclable, and the district is being charged for loads taken to the landfill.

After conducting a cost analysis and also determining that most recycle bins are filled with contaminant materials, the school district has elected to discontinue the recycling program at Draper Park and all other schools throughout the Canyons School District. In the coming weeks, the recycling bin will be removed from Draper Park and other Draper area schools.

In addition, large furniture and similar items are being dropped off in the surrounding area which causes our custodians to spend extra time cleaning up. Occasionally these items are placed in the garbage bin, which then limits the space available for the school’s waste. Residents should be aware that garbage bins at the schools are for school use only.
