Storm Water

The Storm Water Division manages Draper City’s storm water to provide safe, dependable surface drainage in each neighborhood, and ensure storm water runoff from new development or flooding does not impact existing neighborhoods. Responsibilities include street sweeping to clear out debris, operating more than 100 detention and retention basins, and maintaining the storm drain system. Draper City is a member of the Salt Lake County Stormwater Coalition.

Have you ever seen a storm drain clogged with leaves, grass, trash, and other debris? This type of clogging can lead to localized flooding.

Rain and snowmelt wash everything on city streets and paved surfaces down storm drains, flowing untreated directly into creeks, streams, rivers, and lakes. This trash from our community ultimately pollutes local waterways.

By adopting a storm drain in your neighborhood, you can help keep our waterways and, by extension, larger bodies of water cleaner and healthier.

The Adopt a Storm Drain program asks residents to adopt a storm drain in their neighborhood and keep it clear of debris to reduce water pollution. Volunteers are asked to check their adopted storm drain once monthly, and before and after every storm. This contributes to cleaner communities and healthier waterways.

To adopt a storm drain, visit our map of available and claimed storm drains throughout the city. Select an available drain and submit the brief adoption application. Please note that group and storm drain names are public and will be screened for appropriateness. If approved, this will be your drain to maintain and care for to keep our waterways clean and safe. We appreciate your support!

Billing

To connect or disconnect your storm water services, visit Utility Billing.

Storm Water Fees

  • Residential: $7/month (included in a resident’s monthly utility bill)
  • Commercial: $7/ month per ERU; questions about ERU calculations can be directed to Utility Billing at (801) 576-6504.

Equivalent Residential Unit (ERU) represents the water use of an average residential home. For commercial development, the number of ERUS is based on impervious surface–pavements, rooftops, sidewalks, roads, and parking lots. One ERU equals 3,000 square feet of impervious surface. The City Engineer will calculate the ERUs for each commercial development.
