Memorial Benches
Draper City allows for benches to be donated on City-owned property to honor or memorialize the name of a deceased loved one or significant local event. These benches serve to beautify city parks and facilities and foster community engagement.
Memorial bench requests must not interfere with existing and proposed use patterns and must not pose a safety risk to the site proposed. Benches will only be considered if they:
- Commemorate places or historical events of local significance
- Commemorate a community association and/or group that has contributed significantly to Draper
- Commemorate a deceased person with a significant nexus to Draper at least one year after death and only with the consent of the deceased's immediate family.
Memorial bench style and design are pre-selected and approved by the City, and all donated benches will be the same size and style (color may vary). The City allows a pre-determined plaque size to be included on the bench, and donors may select from a list of pre-approved messages. Plaques may not include pictures or logos. Applicants may suggest a location for the donated bench. Applicants must pay the full cost of the bench, including all shipping, hardware, concrete, and staff installation time.
This program is managed by the Parks and Recreation Department, which reviews all applications and ensures memorial bench policy criteria are met, and makes the final decision as to the final location of the bench.
