Gold Star Families Memorial Monument
Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments honor the families of active military members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Made of black granite, these double-sided monuments bear the inscription, Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, a tribute to Gold Star Families and Relatives who sacrificed a Loved One for our Freedom on one side. On the opposite side of the monument are scenes etched on each of the four panels: Homeland, Family, Patriot, and Sacrifice. Centering this tribute is a silhouette of a saluting service member, representing those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
The Gold Star Family Memorial was created by Medal of Honor Recipient Hershel “Woody" Williams to remember those families who have made the ultimate sacrifice. To learn more about the memorial and Woody's legacy, visit the Woody Williams Foundation website.
In honor of those who have made this sacrifice, a new Gold Star Families Memorial Monument honoring the families of servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in the military will be installed in Draper City Park. This monument will join four others in Utah, in Sandy, South Jordan, North Ogden, and St. George.
A ceremony to commemorate the completion of the monument will be held on May 18, 2024 at 11 AM at Draper City Park. We hope that this monument and the surrounding area will be a place of peace and comfort for those who visit it.
