[ARCHIVED] Youth Council Paints Fire Hydrants

Youth council fire hydrants

“On October 4th, members of the Draper Mayor’s Youth Council participated in an activity to help the Draper Fire Department.  They painted fire hydrants around the area of Draper Park Middle School, in order to assist firefighters in locating them as quickly as possible. It was a fun, sometimes messy endeavor, as students painted a fresh coat whilst ensuring the paint didn’t fall with the strong winds that evening.”

Committee (Leadership)

“The youth council has a mission to provide an opportunity to increase their knowledge of civic education through practical hands-on experience.  The volunteers used their hands to restore and paint fire hydrants near the middle school. Several hydrants were given a fresh coat of paint to make them more visible.  The hydrants had faded to a light pink and now will be easily spotted.”

~ Van Seamons, DYC member

“Forty-five youth council members divided into groups and filled the streets applying fresh coats of paint to 24 fire hydrants. Draper City has more than 1,000 fire hydrants to maintain and with a job that big, help from service groups is always appreciated.”

“The youth enjoyed helping the neighborhood. Draper Youth Council member Abby Van De Graaff said, “I liked that we did something to help the city. The fire hydrants looked great when we were done. Fire hydrants are something that you take for granted and it is nice that we could help keep them in good condition.”

“Water Pro supplied the paint, brushes and sanding blocks. Anyone interested in helping with this project can contact Nolan Wooton at Water Pro.”
