Draper City Council Votes to Approve New Fire Chief Clint Smith

DRAPER, Utah. – At last night's City Council meeting, the council members voted to unanimously approve the appointment of Clint Smith as the new Fire Chief for the new Draper City Fire Department. Clint will officially start working for Draper City on October 3rd.

Clint is currently employed by Unified Fire authority (UFA) as the EMS Bureau Chief and is responsible for the oversight and management of all medical aspects of the department. This responsibility includes medical certifications, training and testing for certification requirements, UFA’s Paramedic and EMT schools, narcotics tracking and DEA compliance, ambulance licensure and state compliance, internal quality assurance program and coordination with the State Bureau of EMS. During his career, Clint served as the UFA Chief’s Public Information Officer. Clint Smith comes highly recommended by trusted fire professionals.

Mayor Walker said after interviewing Clint: “I am confident that Clint will be an outstanding fire chief. He has unique and exceptional experience in fire service and also in the political arena serving as the interim Mayor of Herriman from June to December, 2013. He currently serves as the chair of the Herriman City Planning Commission. Clint understands city government, budgeting and serving residents. Clint was raised in a family of hard workers. He knows how to get a job done and he has the highest integrity and work ethic. Draper is Clint’s hometown, and he will make us proud.”

Clint was born and raised in Draper and his ancestors were the first settlers in Draper. He is the son of former Mayor Darrell Smith who served three terms in Draper. Clint’s mother, Launi Smith, served 13 years for the Draper Volunteer Ambulance Service and worked in the Draper Court for 19 years.

1996 Full-time firefighter for Salt Lake County Fire Department
1998 Completed Salt Lake County’s paramedic program – Certified Utah State Paramedic
2000 Fire Prevention Bureau, Area Inspector covering Holladay City and incorporated areas of Salt Lake County
2002 Completed the Special Function Peace Officer training at Post and covered fire prevention duties at the Olympic Oval during the 2002 Winter Olympics
2002 Field paramedic for Draper City
2006 Promoted to Captain with responsibility over the Hazardous Materials Team stationed in Kearns
2006-2013 Flight Paramedic for Life Flight based out of Utah Valley Regional Medical Center
2009 Chief’s Adjutant/Public Information Officer for Fire Chief Don Berry
2009 UFA Liaison to Herriman City
2010 Battalion Chief/Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program Coordinator
2011 Operations Battalion Chief over seven stations in the communities of Riverton, Herriman and Eagle Mountain
2010-present Herriman City’s Planning Commission / Currently Chair of Commission
2011 Completed FEMA’s Master Exercise Practitioner course for exercise design and administration
2013 Appointed as Herriman City’s Interim Mayor (August to December)
