[ARCHIVED] Draper City Council Votes to Give Unified Fire Authority 12-Month Notice

Last night at the Draper City Council meeting the City Council voted 4-1 to pass Resolution 16-42 to exercise its administrative authority to give notice to the Unified Fire Authority (UFA) and its members of the city's intent to withdraw its membership in the UFA. The contract, which was entered into on July 1, 2004, states that Draper City may withdraw its membership in UFA "upon at least one full year's advance notice." a 12-month notice that the city will be deciding if they will be staying with UFA or if the city will be starting their own city fire department.

During the next few months, Draper City will be meeting with representatives from UFA to discuss the future of fire service in Draper. At some point in the next few months they will make the decision to:
1) Stay with UFA.
2) Join Unified Authority Fire Service (UAFS) taxing district or
3) Start a Draper City Fire Department.

There are several cities in the Salt Lake Valley that have their own fire departments: Bluffdale, Sandy, West Jordan, South Jordan and Murray.

The following cities are currently contracted with UFA for their fire service: Cottonwood Heights, Holladay, and Alta.

The following cities are in the Unified Fire Service Area (UFSA) (Taxing District): Herriman, Riverton, Eagle Mountain, Taylorsville, Midvale and Salt Lake County.
