The state Division of Water Quality continues to monitor the situation caused by the toxic algal bloom in Utah Lake.
WaterPro's pressure irrigation (PI) system includes some water from Utah Lake. Rather than eliminate this important water source entirely from our irrigation system, we are in daily communication with the Division of Water Quality and are passing on their recommendations for water safety to our PI customers.
Based on their recommendations:
It's okay to use drip or flood irrigation methods for vegetables, herbs, and other edibles. The plant's roots will filter out the contaminants in the water, according to the Division of Water Quality. DO NOT spray PI water on vegetables, herbs, or other edibles.
It is preferable to water your lawn with PI water at night when no one is around. If you must run your sprinklers during the day, stay out of the water and don't breathe the mist.
Don't fill water features, kiddie pools, or swimming pools with irrigation water.
Remember, culinary water is completely safe to drink and use. These warnings apply only to PI water.
It is impossible to predict how long the algal bloom will last. The Division of Water Quality will continue testing the water and monitoring the situation. We will continue to inform you about any changes to these recommendations.
