This message is for Draper residents who are on WaterPro secondary water. Residents who are on Draper City water do not need to heed these precautions.
Message from WaterPro to their water customers:
The recent unexpected algal bloom in Utah Lake is having a temporary negative effect on our pressure irrigation (PI) water. We advise the following precautions:
· Don’t let animals drink PI water. Humans should never drink the PI water, even under normal circumstances.
· Avoid letting the water touch skin – for example, don’t let kids play in the sprinklers.
· Don’t use the PI water to irrigate vegetables, herbs, or other edibles for the time being.
These precautions are temporary and apply ONLY to PI water. Culinary water is safe for all normal uses.
These precautions are needed while the Utah Division of Water Quality assesses the algal bloom’s effects on the water.
Algal blooms are natural, but this year’s bloom was unexpectedly large and the Division of Water Quality is telling people not to boat on Utah Lake or the Jordan River. Contact with the water may cause diarrhea, skin rash, or respiratory problems.
The Division of Water Quality is closely monitoring the situation. We are in daily contact with them and will follow their recommendations in order to keep our customers safe.
