[ARCHIVED] Civics Education in Local High Schools

Civics Education Online

Mayor Walker recently signed a resolution supporting the Utah Civics Education Initiative. Seventeen other Mayors signed the resolution supporting civics education for our high school students. The Initiative will push “100 Facts Every High School Student Should Know.” Jonathan Johnson, a citizen volunteer who is heading up this initiative, stated: “The “civic soul” across the nation is ailing with only 4% of high school students able to pass the naturalization test that immigrants pass at 94%.”

Senator Howard Stephenson and Representative Steve Eliason are sponsoring a bill during this legislative session requiring all high school students, or those pursuing their GED, to pass the same civics test that is required of all immigrants to become naturalized citizens.
