The Draper City Council will meet in a special session Wednesday, June 23 to evaluate a proposed change to the city’s fireworks restrictions map, as recommended by the fire department.
Although the city has received some inquiries from residents regarding enacting a total ban of personal fireworks within city boundaries, Utah State Code limits the city’s authority to enact a citywide ban. To do so puts the city, and therefore residents/taxpayers at risk of legal liability.
However, the city is able to impose restrictions in areas at highest risk, based on location and historical conditions, and thus an adjustment to the boundaries previously announced will be considered at this special session of the city council.
