Draper Launches Curbside Pickup for Glass Recycling
Thanks to the community’s support, the Curbside Glass Recycling Program is expanding to Draper City! What makes glass unique among other recyclable commodities (such as aluminum) is that it directly benefits Utah’s economy in that it is collected, processed and used by local industry. Recycling glass helps create local jobs, extend the life of our landfill and keep waste disposal costs down.
This optional monthly service is provided in partnership with Momentum Recycling (Utah’s only glass recycling facility located nearby in Salt Lake City). The one-time startup fee of $25 provides you with a small 35-gallon wheeled can specifically for glass recycling. The monthly collection service is just $8 per month. Draper City coordinates the billing, so the service is simply added to your existing utility bill. Momentum Recycling coordinates the delivery of your can and provides the monthly collection service. All colors of glass bottles & jars are accepted, and there is no need to rinse with water or remove labels: simply place all of the glass directly in your can!
“We are truly humbled by the outpouring of support from residents for glass recycling in Draper,” said Jason Utgaard, General Manager at Momentum Recycling. “We recycle 100% of the glass collected, so every bottle & jar counts!”
To sign up for the service, or to find a public glass recycling location near you, please visit https://utah.momentumrecycling.com/draper. Initial subscribers will receive their glass recycling can the first week of March 2020, with the first collection occurring on Monday, March 16, 2020 and will continue to be picked-up every third Monday of each month.
Drop-off glass recycling will still be available at Draper City Hall at 1020 Pioneer Road (green dumpster on east side of parking lot).
